National HIDTA Assistance Center Multimedia Unit

Multimedia Unit Support Specialist GS Level – 7 Salary Range: $43,971 – $57,161 



The position of Multimedia Unit Support Specialist is a responsible staff position within the NHAC reporting to the Multimedia Unit Manager. Under the supervision of the
Multimedia Unit Manager, this position will provide overall multimedia support to a variety of projects including training users in the proper use of the HRMS and Survey Systems via web meetings, phone conferences, or one-on-one training. Responds to telephone calls, e-mail and personnel requests for system support; documents tracks and monitors the problem to ensure a timely resolution. The Multimedia Unit Support Specialist is involved in performing duties described in the following functional categories. 

  • DUTIES: 
  • Utilize various desktop publishing software programs to create, edit and distribute newsletter, quarterly reports for the DHE and the NHAC. Includes interviewing HIDTA personnel and vendors, researching and writing articles, creating sections and text boxes, designing color schemes and adding illustrations 
  • Works closely with graphic designers to produce various artwork including interactive (extensive linking) maps, posters, banners, brochures and other collateral needed for individual HIDTA outreach. 
  • Host instructional webinars teaching HIDTA employees how to use HRMS 
  • Create instructional videos to be posted on HRMS 
  • Create and edit HIDTA certificates in support of all HIDTAs nationwide (large quantities with short turnaround requirements) 
  • Use various desktop publishing programs in conjunction with iPhoto for the creation of HIDTA IDs 
  • Take ID photos for building access cards using image capture utilizing the HID machine for renewal or new employees 
  • Assist in project management by creating spreadsheets and running logs of tasks such as artwork design, and threat assessment maps 
  • Utilize HIDTA Novi survey system to create, to design and edit a survey to distributed to all HIDTA Directors and other personnel on request 
  • Develop questionnaire research on the Novi survey system by reviewing and exporting the results for individual surveys 
  • Edit and maintain HIDTA logos and other artwork logs ensuring proper information and imagery is in the NHAC database (file management) 
  • Set up and maintain A/V equipment in both training rooms for meetings 
  • Assist Media Unit Manager in obtaining and coordinating specs and the set-up of large banners and booths at meetings and conferences (IACP; DHE, etc.). 
  • Narration talent: National HIDTA Conference and individual training videos


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

A combination of a bachelor’s degree and two to three years of application experience. Advanced knowledge of company-supported applications. Ability to learn and support new applications. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator; and Acrobat Pro) iMovie and/or Camtasia, Snag-It , as well as Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint Excel and Outlook. Ability to seamlessly work between PC and Apple environments.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written 
  • Ability to be an independent thinker and problem solver through remote service 
  • Ability to maintain supporting records, assemble and organize data and complete accurate reports 
  • Familiar with office procedures 
  • Familiar with training procedures 
  • Travel nationwide 


SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: 

This position has no supervisory authority. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

This position requires extensive time sitting at a computer workstation and may require lifting equipment to fifty pounds. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

The work requires no risk or discomforts and is typically performed in an office setting. Higher step and grade progression requires additional education and/or training and length of service. Some travel is required for this position.
