The Piedmont Initiative is a multi-agency partnership of Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies that conduct major narcotics investigations targeting Mexico-based Drug Trafficking Organizations (DTO) operating in and around Charlotte, North Carolina. The task force utilizes a variety of investigative techniques to target, identify, disrupt, and dismantle DTOs and Money Laundering Organizations (MLOs) operating in the region.
Based on information developed in investigations, the task force conducts significant seizures and arrests. This initiative was started to target the influx of Mexican black tar heroin into the North Carolina area. The initiative evolved and targets poly-drug organizations based in Charlotte which impact the region. Investigative efforts focus on fully identifying the command-and-control elements and those overseeing the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl to the Charlotte area and utilize combined resources to dismantle the entire organization.
